MSO 720S honours Bruce McLaren in Dubai

A special McLaren 720S has been created by the company’s bespoke McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division for the 2017 Dubai motor show.

Serving as the centrepiece of the company’s display at the event, the special 720S supercar features a unique colour scheme and a famous quote by founder, Bruce McLaren, painted on the rear wing.

Painted in Zenith Black with a satin finish, the special 720S has numerous gold-themed highlights and trims which clearly appeal to the Middle Eastern market, including the alloy wheels, and a 24-carat gold engine heat shield – in similar fashion to the iconic McLaren F1.

The aforementioned quote by Bruce McLaren reads “Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone”, though is written in gold Arabic script stylised to echo Dubai’s high-rise skyline. McLaren says the process of applying the script to the wing alone took 30 hours to complete.

MSO has also added carbon-fibre exterior upgrades for the front splitter, air intakes, rear bumper and roof panel, along with the rear diffuser, aero bridge, deck and rear engine covers.

Inside, the one-off 720S gets Alcantara and black leather trim, carbon-fibre sill panels, fascia vents and steering wheel trim, along with satin gold extended paddle shifters, a gold centre band and lower spokes on the steering wheel, and a gold-colour applique on the door trims.

Under the bonnet is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 developing 527kW of power and 770Nm of torque. McLaren doesn’t claim a 0-100km/h time, though does say the 720S can sprint from 0-200km/h in 7.8 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 341km/h (212mph).

The very special black-and-gold 720S by MSO is already reserved for a customer, who will take delivery of the vehicle following the Dubai motor show, which runs from November 14-18.
